Information about TOVER
TOVER security cylinders, locks and fittings
Who TOVER is and its origin
TOVER, the trade name of Talleres Oliver, is a Spanish brand born in Banyoles, Girona, in 1960. Its first activity focused on fittings for doors and windows, and over time it developed production specialising in security locks, cylinders, access control and components for wooden and metal joinery.
With approximately 66 years of history, TOVER manufactures solutions for the residential and professional market. Its presence extends through a network of distributors and to international markets. The brand stands out for combining rim locks, mortice mechanisms, cylinders and fittings, which makes it easy to plan a complete security improvement and not limit oneself only to the cylinder.
TOVER products for doors and entry points
The TOVER catalogue covers different types of door, from a home entrance to a shutter, a sliding door or metal joinery. Choosing the right product requires knowing whether the lock is mortice, rim or integrated into an aluminium or iron profile, since each system uses different sizes and accessories.
- Euro-profile cylinders, standard and high-security, with double-entry, half-cylinder and thumbturn versions.
- Single- or multi-point rim locks for wooden and metal doors.
- Single-point and multi-point mortice locks for wooden doors, including high-security mechanisms.
- Locks for metal profiles, sliding doors, shutters and roller closures.
- Protective escutcheons, handles, knobs, padlocks, security boxes and complementary fittings.
- Digital locks and access control solutions for installations that require more convenient management.
This breadth makes it possible to keep an existing door or upgrade it progressively. A quality lock works better if the escutcheon, strike plate, frame and handle are well fixed and aligned.
Security technologies in TOVER cylinders
The performance changes between series. The 2F5 cylinder is a conventional five-pin option, useful on less demanding entry points and available with the possibility of master-keying. The 2F10 series incorporates six active pins in an anti-pick row, an anti-drill pin, a reversible flat key and a personal identification card to request duplicates.
For greater complexity, the 2F30 cylinder works with ten active pins in two anti-pick rows and a double dimple combination. It adds anti-drill pins, a reversible nickel-silver key, an identification card and master-keying capacity. The new T2FX reference, designed for locks in the S series, is presented with 21 solid brass pins and declared anti-bumping and anti-drill protection.
Anti-extraction resistance also depends on the cylinder being protected by a suitable escutcheon and not protruding from the door. The UNE-EN 1303 certification and its grades should be verified on the data sheet of the specific model, as it is not advisable to attribute the same classification to the whole catalogue. A professional can check the sizes, cam and compatibility before installing it.
Notable ranges and recommended applications
The 2F10 series can suit the front door of a flat, a holiday apartment or a home where you want to improve the cylinder without carrying out a complete refurbishment. Its anti-pick and anti-drill features provide an additional level compared to a basic cylinder, provided it is completed with a correct installation.
The 2F30 is a more suitable alternative for primary homes, detached houses, ground-floor units or small businesses that need a dimple key, a greater number of active elements and copy control. To reinforce an entry door without machining the leaf, the TOVER rim locks in the 7000, 8000 and 9000 series offer several bolts and a T2 cylinder. The mortice locks in the 430, 230 or 2010 series are appropriate for wooden doors that require one or several locking points.
Real advantages and drawbacks of TOVER
An advantage of TOVER is the variety of formats. It makes it possible to find solutions for old doors, wooden homes, metal joinery, shutters and entrances where you do not want to replace the whole leaf. The possibility of master-keying helps owners of several properties, residents' associations or businesses that want to reduce the number of keys without losing control over access.
As a point to weigh, the wide range requires choosing precisely. An advanced cylinder will not be useful if the lock is deteriorated, the door has play or the escutcheon leaves the cylinder protruding. Some rim locks can change the appearance of the door, and a multi-point system requires checking the position of the strike plates. For an internal door or a low-risk storeroom, a simpler, correctly fitted solution may pay off.
Installation and maintenance of TOVER locks
Before replacing a cylinder, both halves are measured from the centre of the fixing screw and the cam is identified. The cylinder should sit flush or protrude as little as possible relative to the escutcheon. On rim locks, the thickness of the leaf, the direction of opening and the backset of the mechanism are also reviewed.
It is advisable to apply lubricant specific to cylinders and not to use dense oils, which retain dirt. You have to check the entry point if the key turns stiffly, the latch does not enter properly, the bolts rub, play appears in the cylinder or there are forcing marks. After losing keys, acquiring a home or changing tenant, a preventive change of the cylinder makes it possible to regain the security of the copies.
