Who TESA is and its background
TESA, today TESA ASSA ABLOY, is a Spanish company dedicated to locking and access control solutions. It began its activity in 1941 in Eskoriatza, Gipuzkoa, making fittings for suitcases. In 1947 it started producing locks for construction and, since then, has evolved towards the residential, institutional, hotel and professional market.
The brand has approximately 85 years of experience and has been part of the ASSA ABLOY group since 2001. Its headquarters are in Irún and it holds a significant position in the Spanish market for locks, cylinders, fittings and access control. The protection features change according to the range. TESA has cylinders with anti-bumping, anti-pick, anti-drill, anti-extraction and anti-break defences. These measures make attack techniques on the cylinder more difficult, but they must be combined with a suitable escutcheon and a correctly adjusted door to offer a coherent result.
The TK100 cylinder incorporates a reversible dimple key, orbital multi-tip pin technology, a steel bar against breakage and a double clutch as standard. Its copying is controlled by means of a property card and can be registered through Key Manager. It is certified to EN 1303 at the maximum security levels and declares a durability of 200,000 cycles.
The UNE-EN 1303 standard assesses aspects such as key security, attack resistance, corrosion and durability. The exact classifications should always be reviewed on the data sheet of the selected model. A locksmith can measure the cylinder, check whether it protrudes from the escutcheon and advise a solution compatible with the existing lock.

The T60 is positioned as a security option for home doors seeking anti-bumping and anti-pick protection on a moderate budget. The T70 adds a specific approach against breakage, so it can suit the front doors of flats, rental apartments or entry points that already have an acceptable protective escutcheon.
For a higher level, TX80 incorporates a key protected by a card, a double clutch and defences against bumping, picking, drilling and extraction. It is suitable for primary homes, second homes and small businesses. The TX90NG is designed to achieve a high classification, while the TK100 is geared towards doors with maximum demands, complex master-keying, residents' associations, offices and projects with numerous users.

It makes it possible to move from a conventional cylinder to one with a protected key, create master-keying systems or integrate electronic control without necessarily changing the whole door. The point to weigh is that not all TESA cylinders provide the same resistance. Choosing a basic model for a very exposed door may be insufficient, while installing an advanced cylinder on a door with a weak frame does not make the most of its potential. Keys with a card require keeping the documentation to request copies. On internal doors or low-risk storerooms, a simple, well-installed solution may be more proportionate.
Installation and maintenance of TESA cylinders
The size of the cylinder is taken from the centre of the fixing screw to each side. The chosen model should be protected by the escutcheon and protrude as little as possible; in the case of the TK100, the manufacturer recommends not exceeding one millimetre once installed. You also have to confirm the cam, the thickness of the door and the desired function, such as a double clutch or an internal thumbturn.
To preserve the mechanism, it is advisable to apply specific lubricant and carry out periodic cleaning, roughly once a year. Dense oils can accumulate dust and worsen the turning. If the key jams, the cylinder has play, the door rubs, forcing marks appear or keys have been lost, it is worth checking the entry point. After a house move or change of tenant, replacing the cylinder helps to regain control of the existing copies.
