Information about OJMAR
OJMAR: smart locks for lockers and furniture
Who OJMAR is and its speciality
OJMAR is a Spanish company founded in Eibar, Gipuzkoa, in 1919. Its activity evolved from the metallurgical industry towards the manufacture of locks and deadbolts, and later specialised in locking systems for furniture, offices and lockers. It currently keeps its headquarters and production in Elgoibar, in the Basque Country.
With more than 100 years in the trade, OJMAR holds a leading position in mechanical and electronic locks for lockers. Its field of work is not the conventional euro-profile cylinder of a home door, but the entry points of gyms, swimming pools, education centres, offices, hotels, hospitals and changing rooms. This difference is important when choosing the product and the right professional.
OJMAR products: locks for lockers and furniture
The brand designs and manufactures locking systems intended for light doors of metal, wood or phenolic, common in lockers, cabinets, drawers and shared furniture. Its solutions make it possible to replace a mechanical lock, install a keypad or manage many users by means of a card, wristband or mobile phone.
- UNO® mechanical locks for lockers and furniture, with interchangeable cylinders and different key configurations.
- Coin locks, such as OMS Classic, for leisure facilities, swimming pools, gyms and sports centres.
- Mechanical combination locks, among them OMS Combi, with user codes and master opening.
- Electronic RFID, keypad and Bluetooth locks for lockers, cabinets and drawers.
- Mounting accessories, replaceable cylinders, master keys, cards, wristbands and management elements.
OJMAR does not focus on mortice locks for entry doors, anti-extraction escutcheons or residential security fittings. For this reason, its cylinders should be understood as components of a locker or piece of furniture, not as substitutes for a front-door cylinder.
Security, technology and applicable standards
At OJMAR, security is based mainly on usage control and credential management. The mechanical locks can include an interchangeable cylinder, a master key and mechanisms to regain control if a key is lost. On combination systems, the management can reset the code or open the door by means of a master key, which is useful in shared facilities.
The electronic locks work with technologies such as RFID, MIFARE®, NFC, a numeric keypad or Bluetooth, depending on the model. The OTS 20 Batteryless system works without batteries or wiring by means of Push Power technology and declares IP55/IK9 protection, a relevant combination against dust, water and impacts in demanding environments.
The anti-bumping, anti-pick, anti-drill, anti-extraction or dimple-key concepts normally correspond to cylinders for residential doors. OJMAR does not present its locker locks as euro-profile cylinders certified to UNE-EN 1303, so they should not be compared directly. For a cabinet or locker with a damaged lock, a technician can identify the system and assess a compatible replacement.
OJMAR models and recommended uses
UNO® Line is a mechanical solution for lockers and furniture that accepts different cylinder configurations. It is suitable for simple changing rooms, office cabinets or facilities that prefer a physical key and direct maintenance. In the event of a lost key, the cylinder can be replaced without changing the whole lock, provided the correct replacement is used.
OMS Classic suits coin lockers in swimming pools, parks, universities and fitness centres. For those who want to avoid key management, OMS Combi offers a combination, 10,000 possible codes and override by master key. The OGS 10 model uses a keypad and is designed for renovations, while OTS 20 and OTS®PULSE are geared towards installations with RFID, connectivity and management of many users.
Real advantages and limitations
The main advantage of OJMAR is its specialisation. Its solutions make it possible to choose between free use, in which each user temporarily occupies a locker, and assigned use, in which the same user keeps their access. The electronic systems simplify additions, removals and recovery of access in companies, gyms or accommodation. The battery-free model also reduces periodic maintenance interventions.
The limitation is clear: it is not an alternative for reinforcing the entry door of a home. An RFID system or a locker cylinder does not replace a security cylinder, a protective escutcheon or a multi-point lock. In a small community with few lockers, a mechanical solution may be cheaper and simpler. For facilities with many users, cards or wristbands, on the other hand, a connected lock may pay off for its management capacity.
Installation and maintenance of OJMAR locks
The installation must respect the thickness and material of the locker door, the fixing position and the direction of opening. On the OGS 10, for example, the mounting can be vertical or horizontal and is indicated for specific thicknesses of lockers and furniture. Before buying a replacement it is worth identifying the model, the cylinder size and the type of cam or closure.
Mechanical locks should be kept clean and operated without forcing. On the electronic models, you have to watch for battery warnings, the status of the credentials and the configuration of master codes. If a key does not turn, the keypad does not respond, the door becomes misaligned or a master card is mislaid, it is advisable to act before the locker is left locked with belongings inside.
