FICHET: security locks and cylinders for reinforced doors
Who FICHET is
FICHET is a French security brand founded in Paris in 1825 by Alexandre Fichet. Its first developments were linked to the pick-resistant security lock, and its history continued with the manufacture of locks, security doors and safes. In 2025 the brand marked 200 years of history.
Today, Fichet is part of the Fichet Group and keeps production centres in France. In the residential security market it is known for its security doors, multi-point locks and cylinders with a proprietary profile. Its position focuses on complete high-security systems, where the lock, cylinder, strike plates and accessories are designed to work together and maintain a given resistance classification.
Product range and door components
The Fichet offer covers protection solutions for homes, retail and sensitive spaces. Unlike a standard euro-profile cylinder, many Fichet cylinders use specific formats that must be installed in compatible locks from the brand itself.
- F3D, 787 Z cylinders and other security-key systems.
- Rim and multi-point locks for entry doors.
- Security doors, reinforced door blocks and technical doors.
- Strike plates, cylinder protectors, fixing plates and associated fittings.
- Safes, security cabinets, access control and electronic solutions.
The multi-point lock distributes the locking across several points of the leaf and frame, while the cylinder controls operation by means of a protected key. For the installation to retain its performance, the compatible parts and the certification level of each component must be respected.
Technologies, protection and certifications
The F3D cylinder is one of the brand's representative references. It works without the springs usual in other cylinders and uses a patented mechanism to protect against manipulation. Its key entry has a multi-layer structure designed to resist destructive attacks, such as drilling, torsion or pulling out.
The F3D key is reproduced only by means of the coded personal card and the authorised channels, which makes it possible to control duplicates. This measure is relevant for home owners, residents' associations and businesses that need to know who can request new keys. The 787 Z system, used in certain rim locks, incorporates certified protection against bumping, picking, drilling and extraction.
At Fichet, the main security reference is usually the A2P certification, issued by the independent laboratory CNPP. The locks are classified as A2P*, A2P** or A2P***, according to their tested resistance. It is not advisable to replace a Fichet cylinder with any generic cylinder: to maintain the classification, the lock, cylinder, strike plates and accessories must be compatible and of the same A2P level. A locksmithing professional can identify the model before intervening.
Notable models and ranges
The Vertipoint lock is designed to reinforce an existing door without necessarily installing a complete security door. It is offered with A2P* certification and can have three or five locking points, depending on the configuration. It is usually combined with an F3D cylinder and a property card, which makes it suitable for flats and homes seeking an overall improvement of the entry point.
The Alicea locks are geared towards more demanding security doors. The Alicea XP range can achieve A2P*** certification in the corresponding configurations and uses several steel blocks for anchoring. For older installations, there are F3D-2D upgrade kits compatible with different Fichet locks, although the reference must always be verified before ordering a replacement.
Real advantages and drawbacks
Fichet offers the advantage of working with systems conceived as a whole: cylinder, lock and door are coordinated to withstand resistance tests. Copy control by means of a card, multi-point locks and A2P certification are attractive factors for a primary home, a ground-floor unit with direct access or a property that stands empty for periods.
As a trade-off, its proprietary format limits quick replacement with a universal cylinder and can raise the cost of parts and duplicates. An incomplete installation or a mix of non-equivalent components can cause the original security classification to be lost. On simple or low-risk doors, a quality euro-profile assembly correctly fitted may be more proportionate.
Installation and maintenance of Fichet locks
Before changing a Fichet cylinder you must precisely identify the lock, the side of opening, the type of fixing and the compatibility with the external protector. It is not advisable to force or adapt a cylinder that does not match, because it can damage the mechanism or affect the multi-point closure. The installation must also check the condition of the strike plates and the frame.
If the key enters with difficulty, the door does not close smoothly, the locking points rub or the cylinder shows signs of manipulation, it is worth requesting a check. Use specific lubricants and avoid greasy products that accumulate dirt. After losing a key, changing owner or suffering an attempted break-in, consider replacing the cylinder and updating the property card.
